Anthropic adds monthly API credits to Max and Team plans

Anthropic now gives Max subscribers $100 or $200 a month in Claude API credits and pools $20 or $100 per Team seat, capped at $500.

Anthropic now gives Claude Max and Team subscribers a monthly balance of Claude API credits, worth up to $200 a month on Max and up to $500 for a Team. The credits pay for building on the API. They do not cover interactive Claude Code.

Anthropic announced the change in a Claude Platform release notes entry dated Oct. 7, 2026, that reads “Claude Max and Team plans now include monthly API credits.” MIXED reported Oct. 8 that the Claude Haiku 5.5 launch post says the credit reaches all Max and Team subscribers during the week of Oct. 7. The blog madrobot.blog reported the same day that the rollout runs over a few days. It said some eligible accounts may not see it right away.

Max Gets $100 or $200 and Team Pools Per-Seat Amounts

Anthropic’s docs page “API credits for Max and Team plans,” read Oct. 12, sets the amounts at $100 a month on Max 5x and $200 on Max 20x. Team plans get $20 per Standard seat and $100 per Premium seat, pooled into one monthly balance capped at $500. Discounted Team plans get the same per-seat amounts.

Anthropic’s example is a Team with three Standard seats and two Premium seats. It gets $260 a month. Adding a Premium seat raises it to $360. The pool is based on seats at the start of the billing month. Free, Pro and Enterprise plans are not eligible.

The Credits Cover API Work and Skip Claude Code

The credits pay for the Claude API (Messages and Message Batches), Claude Managed Agents, the Claude Agent SDK and the Console playground, according to the same page.

They do not pay for interactive Claude Code, extra usage in the Claude apps, or Claude on Amazon Bedrock, Google Cloud or Microsoft Foundry. Plan usage limits stay as they were.

Claiming Takes a Web Browser and a Console Organization

A subscriber claims the credits by linking one Claude Console organization on claude.ai in a web browser, per Anthropic’s Help Center article “Monthly API credits for Max and Team plans,” read Oct. 12. On Team, a Primary Owner or Owner does it. The Console role must be Owner, Admin or Billing.

New subscribers can claim after 7 days on an eligible plan. Each plan links to one Console organization. Each organization can take credits from one plan. Users cannot change the link themselves.

Credits Expire Each Cycle and Lift Rate Limits

Anthropic’s docs say the credits expire at the end of each billing cycle with no rollover. They are spent before any purchased credits. Everyone with an API key in the linked organization draws from the same balance.

Linked organizations move to at least the Start rate-limit tier, or to at least the Build tier if the monthly credits exceed $200. When the credits run out and the organization has no purchased credits, API requests stop until the next monthly credits arrive. Usage is never charged to the Claude plan.

What We Think

These credits are for people building on the API. A Max subscriber who mostly works in Claude Code gets nothing extra for that work. The 7-day wait and the one-organization link are the terms that will trip people up. A subscriber cannot change the link alone once it is set.

Team buyers should check the cap before counting on a bigger pool. By our arithmetic from the stated per-seat amounts, the $500 cap is reached at 25 Standard seats or 5 Premium seats.
