Standalone Claude Design closes Dec. 14 and moves into Claude

Anthropic is closing the standalone Claude Design site, and design systems must be migrated while projects, chats and comments mostly stay behind.

Anthropic is closing the standalone Claude Design site, and only part of what people built there moves into Claude.

The site at claude.ai/design shuts Dec. 14, 2026, according to Anthropic’s Help Center migration guide, last modified Oct. 8. It stays usable until then. After that, claude.ai/design sends people to Claude. Claude Code 2.1.302 added the same notice to /design-sync and /design-login.

What Moves

Design systems move. One migration brings over every design system in an organization, including ones other people made. Anyone who can use Claude Design can start it, not only owners. It runs from the Artifacts page in Claude, through the “Migrate team design systems” button in the “Claude Design lives here now” banner.

Each design system keeps its owner and sharing. The originals stay unchanged in the standalone version until it closes. Empty design systems and ones built from a built-in starter theme, even edited ones, are not migrated. Others fail for reasons such as size. The migration window lists each with a reason.

Published design systems that are not private become shared with everyone in the organization after migration and appear in their design system menu. On individual plans nothing is shared.

A migrated design system cannot be edited on its own page yet. Its editors see the note “Migrated from the standalone version. Ask Claude to make changes.”

What Stays Behind

Projects do not move yet. They keep working in the standalone version until it closes. The Artifacts page in Claude lists up to 60 of them and opens them in the standalone version. Anthropic said more details about moving projects “are coming soon.” Projects can be downloaded one at a time through Share, then “Project HTML,” then Project archive, which exports a .zip. There is no download-all.

Chats with Claude and comments on projects and design systems are not carried over. Anthropic said they will be deleted after closing under its data retention practices in December 2026. Public links to projects in the standalone version stop working after it closes. The originals are deleted.

Team and Enterprise Settings

Claude Design in Claude depends on artifacts. An organization with artifacts turned off cannot create designs or migrate. Design systems and Design and Slides templates are on by default for Team plans and off for Enterprise plans. The guide tells owners to set a default design system. Organizations with zero data retention cannot turn on artifacts. They cannot migrate and must download projects before the closure.

Our View

Projects do not migrate, and they export one at a time. We think that makes the closing date a question of workload. Each project worth keeping needs its own export. The work grows with the number of projects, and individual users with a long project list have a long list of exports.

Team and Enterprise owners face the same count across everyone in the organization.

The exports can wait only if Anthropic’s project migration, which it said is coming soon, arrives before Dec. 14.
