Google opens Gemini student hub to Workspace for Education users

Google's Gemini student hub, first offered in personal accounts, is now open to Workspace for Education users of all ages, with admins in control.

Google has extended the Gemini student hub, a set of study tools, from personal accounts to Workspace for Education users of all ages.

Google said in an Oct. 1, 2026, Workspace Updates blog post that the hub, a dedicated space in the Gemini app for getting students started with all of Gemini’s learning tools, “is now available to Google Workspace for Education users of all ages.”

Students can start study notebooks and flashcards

Google said students can start a study notebook, create flashcards, take a practice quiz and more from the hub. As Gemini creates more learning tools, Google said, they will appear there.

Google’s Aug. 19 blog post said study notebooks launched in June. They take uploaded class materials, set up a game plan, offer a diagnostic quiz, and produce bite-sized lessons and quizzes with a progress dashboard.

Admins control access through existing settings

School administrators control the hub through the Generative AI settings in the Workspace Admin console, Google said. Those settings also govern the Gemini app and related in-app tools.

Google said there is no end-user setting for the hub. Students reach it at gemini.google.com/students or through Students in the Gemini app menu.

The hub is open to all Workspace customers outside the EEA

Google said the hub is available to all Google Workspace customers and Workspace Individual subscribers outside the European Economic Area, and to users with personal Google accounts globally. It is available now for Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains.

The hub began in personal accounts in August

Google introduced the student hub Aug. 19 in personal accounts, Jennifer Shen, director of product management for the Gemini app, wrote in a Google blog post that day. She described it as “a dedicated hub to get you started with all of Gemini’s tools and offers, just for students.”

The same post offered eligible college students in the U.S. one year of Google AI Pro free, valued at $19.99 a month as of Aug. 19. Outside the U.S., Google offered one year of Google AI Plus free.

Analysis

We think school administrators now decide how far the hub spreads. An administrator is the person who manages a school’s Google accounts. Google said the hub follows the Generative AI settings already in the Admin console. Students have no setting of their own. Adoption inside schools therefore depends on those administrators.
