Google is rolling out AI Inbox in Gmail to paid Workspace users in the US, and admins have no setting to turn it on or off.

Google is rolling out AI Inbox in Gmail to paid Google Workspace users. Admins have no control over it. The feature turns email threads into to-do lists and summaries.

Google announced the expansion on its Workspace Updates blog on Oct. 15, 2026. AI Inbox launched in Gmail earlier in 2026. Google said the expansion to paid Workspace users began Oct. 15.

AI Inbox Pulls Tasks and Summaries From Email

AI Inbox has two parts. Suggested to-dos extracts action items, deliverables and deadlines from email conversations. Topics to catch up on summarizes important topics across multi-message threads and rapid back-and-forth. The summaries cover key decisions and status changes.

Eligible users open it in the Gmail desktop client or from the mobile app menu. Google said there is no admin control for the feature.

The Rollout Runs Up to 15 Days

Rapid Release domains began receiving AI Inbox on Oct. 12, 2026. Scheduled Release domains start on Oct. 26, 2026. The rollout is gradual. Google said visibility can take up to 15 days.

It is available on these editions:

  • Business Starter, Standard and Plus
  • Enterprise Starter, Standard and Plus
  • AI Pro for Education
  • Frontline Plus

Only users in the US with EN-US as their language can use it. Google also said AI Inbox will roll out later to Starter and Education editions “in the coming months.”

Our View

Admins run the Workspace domain, and Google says they have no setting for AI Inbox. The feature reads multi-message threads in the mailboxes of eligible employees. On a Rapid Release domain, it has been reaching those mailboxes since Oct. 12, 2026. On a Scheduled Release domain, it starts Oct. 26, 2026.

Employees on those domains will see suggested deadlines and summarized decisions drawn from their threads. Google said AI Inbox will roll out later to Starter and Education editions “in the coming months.”

An employee who acts on a suggested deadline or a summarized decision is relying on the tool’s reading of the thread. The time AI Inbox saves depends on employees checking that reading against the original messages before they act.
