Gmail Live voice search reaches paid Workspace users on mobile
Google is rolling out Gmail Live to paid Workspace users on Android and iOS, turned on by default for organizations with Gemini in Workspace access.

Google is rolling out Gmail Live, a voice search for the inbox, to paid Google Workspace users on Android and iOS. It is on by default for organizations with Gemini in Workspace access. Admins do not have to switch it on.
Google announced the rollout on its Workspace Updates blog on Oct. 15, 2026. The post said it follows an earlier rollout of conversational AI voice capabilities.
Gmail Live Answers Inbox Questions Out Loud
Employees ask questions naturally and hear synthesized answers drawn from their email. Google said Gmail Live uses its latest Gemini models and called it low-latency and inbox-aware.
The post gave four example prompts: “What is the order status for Black Forest Construction Supply?”, “When is my next mandatory training due?”, “Show me the latest update from my manager, John.” and “What gate is my flight leaving from tomorrow?”
An email source card appears at every conversational turn and opens the emails an answer came from. The voice can be picked from within Gmail Live.
Admins Get It Without Changing a Setting
Gmail Live is on by default for organizations with Gemini in Workspace access, Google said. It respects the smart features and personalization admin settings already in place.
Users Start From the Search Bar
Employees on supported iOS and Android devices tap the Live entry point in the Gmail search bar to start a voice session. Microphone access is requested the first time.
The Rollout Runs Up to 15 Days
The gradual rollout began Oct. 15 on Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains. Google said feature visibility can take up to 15 days.
The feature is available on these plans:
- Business Starter, Standard and Plus
- Enterprise Starter, Standard and Plus
- Frontline Plus
- Google Workspace for Nonprofits
- The Gemini Business, Gemini Enterprise, AI Expanded Access and AI Ultra Access add-ons
- Google AI Pro for Education
- Consumer Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra
Gmail Live is currently available only to users in the US with EN-US as their language, the post said.
Our View
Start with the source card. A spoken answer gives a listener nothing to scan. The card shows employees where the answer came from. One appears at every turn of the conversation.
Google’s example prompts show the stakes. An order status, a training deadline and a flight gate are facts an employee acts on. An employee who hears a gate number can open the card and read the original email to confirm it.
That check helps only when employees open the card for answers they plan to act on.
