Google is upgrading the text-to-speech engine behind AI voiceovers and avatar narration in Google Vids to its latest Gemini 3.8 Flash Lite TTS model. Google said the feature has no admin control and no end-user setting.
Google announced the change in a Sept. 29, 2026, Workspace Updates blog post. It tagged the post Rapid Release.
Google says voiceovers should sound less robotic
Google listed improved sentence flow, lifelike pacing and context-aware emphasis as what Vids creators should see. It said these reduce robotic cadences and labeled the gain “Superior Naturalness & Inflection.”
Google also listed fast generation latency. It said rapid audio synthesis lets users iterate on scripts and preview voiceovers in real time.
The upgrade is live for two release tracks
Google said the upgrade is available now to Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains.
Google pointed readers to its Help Center page “Create voiceovers with AI in Google Vids.”
Business, Enterprise and Education customers are covered
Google said the upgrade reaches Business, Enterprise and Education Plus customers along with consumer Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers.
By edition, Google listed Business Starter, Standard and Plus, and Enterprise Starter, Standard and Plus. It also named Essentials Starter, Enterprise Essentials, Enterprise Essentials Plus, Individual and Nonprofits.
Google also named the add-ons Google AI Pro for Education, Teaching and Learning, and AI Expanded Access.
