ChatGPT now builds interactive interfaces into its GPT-6 answers

OpenAI said Oct. 7, 2026 that GPT-6 in ChatGPT can answer with buttons, forms and charts, and can start replying while it is still thinking.

OpenAI said ChatGPT can now answer with working interfaces instead of only text, a feature it calls Intelligent UI that arrives with GPT-6 in the Chat tab. The same release lets the model begin replying while it is still reasoning.

OpenAI announced both Oct. 7, 2026, in a post titled “GPT-6 and Intelligent UI for everyone,” according to 9to5Mac (Marcus Mendes) and MacRumors (Juli Clover), both Oct. 7. OpenAI’s page sits behind a bot wall and could not be read. The figures here come from those two outlets, from TestingCatalog on Oct. 7 and from OpenAI’s posts on X as TestingCatalog quoted them.

What Intelligent UI does

ChatGPT can respond with “fully interactive user interfaces,” MacRumors reported Oct. 7, quoting OpenAI. These include graphics, tappable buttons, forms, charts and diagrams. OpenAI said everyday answers will be more visual.

The format depends on the question, 9to5Mac and TestingCatalog reported Oct. 7. A comparison may appear side by side and an explanation as an interactive diagram. Plain text remains when that is clearest.

ChatGPT can also build small tools inside the chat, such as a bill splitter, a calculator, a savings calculator or small games, MacRumors and TestingCatalog reported. MacRumors said sample GPT-5.6 and GPT-6 comparisons on OpenAI’s website show a recipe widget that adjusts quantities by guest count, plus checklists, integrated maps and multiple-choice follow-up questions.

According to OpenAI, as MacRumors and TestingCatalog reported, the feature uses a library of native, streamable components and a compiler that processes the interface while the model generates it. Responses appear progressively on web and mobile.

TestingCatalog said ChatGPT has a weekly audience of more than 1.2 billion people. It said OpenAI acknowledged the model’s design judgment and range of experiences still need work. Sam Altman wrote on X Oct. 7, as TestingCatalog quoted him: “Have been waiting for this one for a long time, and I would hate to have to go back to the old version of Chat!”

Rollout

GPT-6 with Intelligent UI reached ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users Oct. 7, according to MacRumors, 9to5Mac and TestingCatalog. OpenAI said Free and Go users would get it the next day. Paid tiers get GPT-6 Sol. Free and Go get GPT-6 Luna. Enterprise access depends on workplace admin settings.

OpenAI released GPT-6 Sol and Luna in the API Sept. 22, 2026. Per OpenAI pricing as of Sept. 22, Sol costs $2 per 1M input tokens and Luna $0.10.

GPT-6 in ChatGPT is limited to the Chat tab, MacRumors and TestingCatalog reported. The models behind Work and Codex are not changing.

Speed claims

OpenAI says GPT-6 starts answering sooner than GPT-5.6, according to TestingCatalog on Oct. 7. The model can begin replying while it is still thinking, interleaving reasoning with partial responses, MacRumors, 9to5Mac and TestingCatalog reported.

TestingCatalog reported that OpenAI’s internal evaluation of high-value everyday agentic tasks found GPT-6 Extra High began answering as quickly as GPT-5.6 Medium while scoring above GPT-5.6 Extra High overall. On web-search questions, GPT-6 Instant started 44% sooner on average than GPT-5.6 Instant. These are OpenAI’s own internal figures.

Analysis

We think the change that matters is who decides what an answer looks like. The model now chooses the format of each answer. That judgment is new. OpenAI said it still needs work.

We would hold the speed claims loosely. They come from OpenAI’s own internal tests, with no outside evaluation yet. A reply that starts sooner is only better if what follows is as good.
