Workspace Studio flows now nest conditionals and search Drive docs

Google is adding nested branching, a Gmail setting that skips replies, richer Meet outputs and a Drive document search step to Google Workspace Studio.

Google Workspace Studio flows can now branch inside other branches and look up Drive documents on their own. Users who build automations without writing code get more ways to make a flow decide.

Google announced the changes in an Oct. 9, 2026, Workspace Updates blog post. It said the additions are part of its October 2026 feature release and expand automation across Gmail, Google Meet, Google Drive and custom control logic.

Nested conditionals add multi-layered decision paths

Google said Workspace Studio now supports nested branching logic within flows. Users can build multi-layered conditional decision paths.

Gmail and Meet steps get finer controls

Google said a Gmail thread trigger can now be set to ignore follow-up replies. A flow then fires only on the primary incoming email.

The Google Meet primitive now outputs more Calendar event metadata, including full invitee lists, Google said. It also supports templates for generating post-meeting follow-up email drafts.

A new Drive step searches for documents

Google added a Search for a Doc step to Google Drive. It lets flows search dynamically for document files based on search parameters.

Google said the changes remove repetitive follow-up tasks, allow dynamic document lookup and give more control over automated communication.

Rollout begins Oct. 13

Google said Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains get a gradual rollout starting Oct. 13, 2026. Features can take up to 15 days to become visible.

The features are on by default and appear in the Workspace Studio flow builder, Google said. Their controls inherit the overall Workspace Studio domain and organizational-unit policies. Admin settings for the prerequisite primitives ramped before the feature deployment.

All Google Workspace customers and Workspace Individual subscribers with access to Workspace Studio are covered.

Our view

We think nested conditionals and a document search step let a flow decide and fetch rather than only react to one trigger. Nesting lets a flow ask a second question that depends on the first answer. The search step then lets it go find a file that matches the case it has reached.
